Club Newsletter

26/2011

Hi Everyone

Last newsletter for the season! This Saturday we are meeting at Avalon Park (duckpond end) by the stopbank. We have the Turkey Trot and Consolation Races. You will need to estimate your time, then run without watches, etc. The under 14's will be running 2km, the 14-19 year olds - 5km, and everyone else is 10km. Please be there at 1.30pm so we can get everyones estimated times and start the races at 1.45pm. Hopefully we will have better weather than last week, and we can fire up the bbq for the last run and race of the season.

The prizegiving is also on this Saturday, at 6.00pm with the formal part of the evening to start at 6.30pm. Could everyone please pay by cash on the night when you enter.

KIWISPORT
You can watch the KiwiSport programme featuring HVH on http://ondemand.four.co.nz/Kiwisport-TV-Season-1-Ep-17/tabid/60/articleID/3597/MCat/317/Default.aspx

CLUB UNIFORM
Club members are required to wear the club singlet or crop top with black shorts/pants in all interclub races and national events. You are also encouraged to wear the club singlet on club pack runs and in club races. Singlets may be purchased from the club for $45. Alternatively, members under 18 may loan singlets from the club for a $45 deposit which will be refunded when the singlet is returned, clean and laundered. An order of club singlets have arrived for those who have ordered one.

Black jackets and black gear bags with our club logo in orange are given to our 19&under and 16&under age group members for their use. We ask that these items be returned if members leave the club and they are in good order. An order for the jackets and bags has been made for these members, and other members who have placed an order. Hopefully they will be available at our next club day.

HVH ON FACEBOOK
Hutt Valley Harriers has a presence on Facebook. This site is intended to complement the official website, and is available for members to share photos, favourite runs, and other information on running and walking. To sign up to this site, you will need to have an existing Facebook site. The link at the HVH facebook site is: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/group.php?gid=139389491609
Alternatively do a search for Groups by typing in Hutt Valley Harriers and ask to join the group.

SPEEDWORK
Speedwork is held every Wednesday evening at the Riverside Carpark (over the stopbank from Countdown Supermarket). We meet at the northern end of the carpark, near Harvey Norman, at 6.15pm.
Speedwork is for anyone who wants to increase their running tempo or who is looking for a more intensive workout than those provided by the Thursday or Saturday pack runs. The programme each night includes warm-ups and running drills, and will include hill running, repetitions and tempo runs as we progress.
Speedwork will be on wet or fine, warm or cold. Harriers is a winter sport and you will get wet - so don't wimp out if the weather is a bit damp and cold. We'll adapt the programme to suit the conditions.
Contact simonengland@hotmail.com for further information, or just turn up on Wednesday.

THURSDAY NIGHT SHOE CLINIC RUN
For those who want to enjoy a relaxed hour long run, you are welcome to join Steve Robertson (Deputy Club Captain) who leads a pack run from the Lower Hutt Shoe Clinic at 6pm every Thursday evening. This group also has a small group of walkers. The packs go out for around an hour. Please meet at the Shoe Clinic, High Street, Lower Hutt by 5.55pm.

SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS
The Shoe Clinic
The Shoe Clinic has once again confirmed that it will continue to sponsor HVH for yet another year. For every dollar members spend on product at the Lower Hutt Shoe Clinic, the Shoe Clinic will donate 10% back to HVH at the end of the year. All you have to do is tell Rob and staff that you are a member of HVH and they will record your purchase to ensure it contributes to a donation for the club. Supporting the Shoe Clinic means you are supporting the club.

The Mad Butcher
The Lower Hutt Mad Butcher has once again agreed to support our club by providing sausages for our club run day barbeques. We appreciate the support the Mad Butcher gives us and ask members to return this support by considering purchasing your meat produce from the Lower Hutt Mad Butcher.
