Masters Classic Relay

Trentham Memorial Park - May 16

Valleys United scooped the pool in the Classic Relay today at Trentham winning the open vets, 250 age group and 300 age group relays.

Steve Malanchak led off for the open vets and when he handed over to Tony Madsen the relay was all but won as Tony came in on the second leg with no other runner in sight.

The 250 age team came in a credible 3rd placing overall being beaten out of 2nd by Olympic with Dave Murgatroyd ex HVH running the last leg for Olympic beating off John Houghton who ran the third fastest leg of the day for Valleys United.

The 300 age group was led off by John Wood who after completing his leg took off to kayak 12 kms in the Crazyman. John ran 16.45 for the 1st leg and put the 300 age group team well in the lead. At the finish Bernie Ryan outraced Roger Childs from Kapiti and we all thought it was a close affair for the 300 age group as Roger Childs is over 60 but we found that Roger was running for the open Kapiti team so the 300 age team beat the open Kapiti team in an exciting finish. The individual times were as follows
