HVH president Ron Stephens shares a joke with
Sports Minister and Hutt South
MP Trevor Mallard at the 2003 opening day on
Saturday 5 April.

Mr Mallard declared
the season open after telling members of his involvement with
another harrier club through his father, who is a life member.
He also commented on the important role clubs such as HVH played
in encouraging physical activity in the community, which is
in line with one of the publicly stated aims of the Government.
In welcoming members for the season, Ron outlined a couple
of fun-type activities that would double as fund raisers to
subsidise things like junior trips to national events, or
people wanting to take part in events held in
other centres. This would supplement subsidiesprovided by
Valleys United. Planned activities included a `hat day' and
raffles to be held each club day.
Following the opening welcome, members enjoyed pack runs
and a sausage sizzle and afternoon tea.
